UPPER EAST WATER SUPPLY PROJECT:
GWCL to support about 4,800 household connections in Bolgatanga and Navrongo through its Low-Income Customer Support Department (LICSD)
As part of its corporate responsibility of providing safe and potable water for consumers in all urban areas, the Low-Income customer support Department of the Ghana Water Company Limited under the Upper East Water Supply Project seeks to support about 4,800 Low-Income earners at a subsidized cost of Ghs 300.00 for a household connection.
Speaking on the Tanga Radio Drive talk show,
The Officer-in-Charge of Low Income Customer Support Department (LICSD) Mr. Justin Navelle lauded the MD of GWCL, Ing. Dr. Clifford Braimah, the board members, and top management of the Company for elevating the Unit to a department that is now headed by the Chief Manager, Mrs. Faustina Boachie.
Mr. Navelle explained that the average cost of a new service connection within 120 meters is about Ghc1400 making it extremely difficult for low-income earners to afford. He emphasized achieving SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation for all. He added that the pro-poor segment should therefore not be denied irrespective of their low-income levels.
The Upper East Regional Commercial Manager Mr. Mohammed Bashiru also stressed that residents within these Low-Income Urban Communities (LIUCs) will now pay only Ghs 200.00 for a household connection and Ghc100.00 as a deposit against their first bill totaling Ghc300.00 instead of paying about Ghc 1,400.00 for a normal connection.
He encouraged all Persons within the catchment area to take advantage of this Project since it is the first of its kind in the region.
He added that the Project will end by December 2021.
