N/R: Student Journalist dropped from School; forced into marriage calls for intervention.

Information gathered from RadioWorldGh indicates that a 23-years-old Level 100 student of the Institute of Business Management and Journalism (IBM&J) in Tamale has been forced into marriage.

This incident is alleged to have happened in a community called Jamboni in Yendi Municipality.

The student, whose identity is been concealed on grounds of confidentiality was on a one-month internship at Yendi-Based Sankara Radio until pressure was mounted on her to visit the village and when she went, she was handed to the arranged husband for marriage.

The victim was pursuing a Diploma in Journalism at the Institute and was been compelled to be married to a man identified as Peter Kaaji.

Information had it that She was asked to discontinue her education and attachment at Sakara Radio because they want her to get married to a man that she did not know, sources said.

Reports also suggest that the student Journalist was threatened to suffer neglect and banishment among others should she failed to marry the unknown man.

She said she was further instructed not to communicate the bizarre incident to anyone and to pick up things bought for purpose of the next academic year from the hostel at the (IBM&J) Tamale Learning Centre.

RadioworldGh learned that a complaint is yet to be lodged at the Office of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) and Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service in Yendi.

The student journalist says she wants to continue her education and appeal to stakeholders, public, non-governmental organizations, and human rights bodies to intervene to help her seek justice.
